A tire and automotive repair center is one of the last places you’d expect to find a green thumb. Then again, a business named Tire Discounters is the last place you’d expect to find brake service, oil changes, performance upgrades and suspension repair. Yet, here we are, cleaning up the planet and servicing much more than tires.

Our products and practices don’t stand out just because they’re exceptional; they stand out because they’re exceptionally good for the environment. Below is a quick overview of how our commitment to Planet Earth has evolved since we opened up shop over 40 years ago.

1976: Free Lifetime Rotation and Wheel Balancing

Since Tire Discounters was founded, we’ve offered free lifetime rotation and wheel balancing—a service that increases fuel efficiency and extends the life of your tire.

1997: Alignment

We offer free alignment with the purchase of four tires and TD standard installation. Proper alignment increases fuel efficiency and extends tire life.

2002: Fuel-efficient Tires

A little over a decade ago we began selling “green” tires. While these tires are still rubber and black as night, they are designed to lower rolling resistance. Rolling resistance is the force resisting an object rolling on a surface. By diminishing this friction, green tires can reduce fuel consumption by 8%, thus cutting back on your vehicle’s CO2 emission. We offer fuel-efficient tires from Michelin, Yokohama, Kumho and others.

2012: Recycled Motor Oil

We use NextGen Semi Synthetic motor oil because it contains 50% recycled oil, while maintaining 100% Valvoline quality. You can find additional information about our oil and filter offerings in the Services section.

2012: Zinc Wheel Weights

Wheel weights are a lot like paint: Lead is out—at least at Tire Discounters. We use zinc wheel weights to balance your tires because they’re safer for the environment than their lead counterpart.

Over 40 years in the auto industry is more than enough time to know that actions speak louder than words. Saying you’re helping the environment and actually helping it are two completely different things. That’s why we put our money where our mouth is and implemented efficient practices in our new Tire Discounters locations.

Recycled Tires

All of the tires we no longer need are sent to a recycling facility to be used for other purposes. Spoiler alert: Some of them get to come back home to Tire Discounters!

Recycled Oil

Every drop of oil we drain from your car is sent to a recycling facility to be used again. It’s a team effort, so feel free to pat yourself on the back.

Energy-efficient Glass

No, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. The glass on the outside of our stores is blue. We call it “Tough Guy Blue.” Truthfully, the glass is called Azuria glass—a spectrally selective*, energy-efficient glass that delivers solar control and spectrally selective properties, thereby lowering our stores’ energy usage.

* The U.S. Department of Energy defines “spectrally selective” as glass with a Light to Solar Gain (LSG) ratio of 1.25 or higher.

Recycled Rubber Mulch

Our mulch is better than their mulch. On the surface, this sounds like a childish (and made-up) difference between our competitors and us—but it’s true! We use rubber mulch in our landscaping. Rubber mulch is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional wood mulch—so much so that its carbon footprint is reduced by more than 90% over the life of the product.

Furthermore, extending the life of tires maximizes the return on our society's investment in the cost of the original rubber. The tire manufacturing processes, shipping, delivery and disposal of the products are all taxing on the environment. Having strange, spongy mulch is just one of the ways we try to give back.

Recycled Rubber Flooring

Tires from the ground up just took on a whole new meaning. By recycling old tires and turning them into rubber flooring, we’re saving natural resources, energy and landfill space.
